Proper sensor installation is the foundation of accurate data. The 1/4″ Mild Steel Weld-on Kit is engineered specifically for installing 1/4″ Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) thermocouples into mild steel exhaust manifolds and headers. By matching the metallurgy of the mounting boss to the exhaust tubing, this kit ensures a superior weld quality, minimizing the risk of cracking in the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and preventing the galvanic corrosion issues that can plague mismatched metal joints.

Robust Sensor Retention

This kit provides a complete mounting solution where no threaded port exists. The weld-on boss acts as a robust anchor point, much thicker than the exhaust tubing itself, ensuring that the sensor does not vibrate loose or strip threads over time. The integrated compression fitting system (Nut and Ferrule) allows for the secure retention of any standard 1/4″ (6.35mm) OD thermocouple probe. As the nut is torqued, the ferrule bites into the probe, creating a gas-tight seal capable of withstanding the high backpressure of turbocharged systems.

Installation Flexibility

The compression design allows the installer to adjust the depth of the probe before locking it down. This is crucial for performance tuning, as the sensor tip should be positioned in the center of the gas stream—roughly 1/3 to 1/2 way into the pipe diameter—for the most representative temperature reading.
