This harness connects a Haltech Elite ECU directly to the factory Honda wiring loom, allowing for full manipulation of fuel, ignition, and the continuously variable cam timing (VTC) and VTEC switchover points. This is essential for modified engines with aggressive cams, forced induction, or high-compression builds where the stock ECU cannot compensate.
Engineering for Multiplex and i-VTEC
Honda’s electrical architecture in the DC5 era utilizes a multiplex communication system for the dashboard. This adaptor harness is designed to manage the engine functions flawlessly, but it is important to note the limitations regarding the dashboard. The harness supports the engine’s critical sensors including the crank/cam position sensors required for i-VTEC operation. However, due to the multiplex system, the factory coolant temperature gauge, battery light, and A/C request signal are not supported through this harness alone. Tuners typically utilize a Haltech IC-7 dash or aftermarket gauges to monitor these parameters. For the 05-06 RSX, this harness specifically addresses the pinout changes from the earlier 02-04 models.
Operational Benefits
Despite the dash limitations, the performance benefits are immense. The Elite ECU can manage VTEC engagement based on a multidimensional map of RPM and load, rather than a simple switch point. It supports the factory knock sensor for engine protection and allows for the conversion to a MAP-based tuning system. If the factory Intake Runner Control (IMRC) is retained, an Elite 1500 is required to control it; the Elite 1000 does not support this output.
