Universal CAN Integration for Custom Harnessing
The CAN Adaptor Loom (DTM-4 to Flying Leads) is the fabricator’s solution for integrating Haltech CAN-based devices into non-standard wiring harnesses or aftermarket ECUs that utilize AMP Superseal 1.0 series connectors. While Haltech’s ecosystem relies on the robust DTM-4 standard, many third-party ECUs and legacy systems utilize different termination standards. This adaptor loom bridges that gap, providing a pre-terminated, professional interface that eliminates the need for cutting and splicing factory Haltech cables.
Technical Architecture and Termination
This harness features a molded DTM-4 Female connector on one end, compatible with Haltech IC-7 Dashes, WB1/WB2 Wideband Controllers, and I/O Expanders. The opposing end features flying leads pre-terminated with pins specifically designed to seat into AMP Superseal 1.0 Series connectors. This specific termination is crucial for installers working with ECUs that use the Superseal system for their CAN communications, allowing for a “click-in” installation into the ECU connector housing without the need for specialized crimping tools.
The wiring itself utilizes automotive-grade, twisted-pair conductors for the CAN High and CAN Low signals. This twisting is essential for differential signaling, rejecting electromagnetic interference (EMI) from ignition systems and alternators to ensure a clean data stream. The power and ground wires are sized to handle the current requirements of standard CAN accessories.
Operational Benefits
- Seamless Custom Integration: Allows Haltech peripherals (like the IC-7 Dash) to be cleanly wired into third-party ECUs (such as certain Microtech or MoTeC units) that utilize AMP Superseal connectors.
- Preserves Original Harnesses: Eliminates the need to cut the DTM connector off your expensive wideband or dash cable, preserving the resale value and integrity of the component.
- Signal Integrity: Factory-crimped terminals ensure a gas-tight, low-resistance connection, preventing the intermittent data drops common with hand-crimped or soldered CAN connections.
- Simplified Wiring: Color-coded leads match standard automotive protocols, simplifying the pinout process during harness construction.
